CWMBRAN RFC DINNER & AWARDS NIGHT (Guest Speaker - Phil Steele - details on events page)

U12's Match Reports > Sunday 27th March Cwmbran U12s (56) vs Caerleon (7)

Cwmbran welcomed Caerleon on Sunday for a much anticipated fixture based on the hard fought battle earlier in the season. Cwmbran had mentally and physicaly prepared for the days event the best they could yet in the first couple of minutes were dealt a blow by conceding a try from Caerleon afetr a quick tap penalty resulted in the visitors taking a 7-0 lead. From this point on, the tempo of the game changed considerably. Despite Caerleons courageous efforts, excellent work from each and every player from Cwmbran, resulted in the forwards clearing out well and presenting the backs with the opportunity to break Caerleons line and get their first score from William Thomas Pace uner the posts. Despite Cwmbran kicking off, the ball was able to be retained and Cwmbran quickly followed with a second try from Lewis Hopkins, taking them into the lead. This set the standard for the game when William Thomas Pace broke the lines well with some clever footwork and handling skills to score the next two tries. Once again, the forwards demonstrated excellent support and were virtually covering the park as one unit, allowing a fifth try from Morgan Powell. With Cwmbrans kickers, Morgan Powell and Jac Clarke on fine form converting all tries, it appeared not much could go wrong for Cwmbran. Caerleon continued to mix it up and show some good forward combinations to work their way up towards the try line yet through excellent defence and determination from Cwmbran, were unable to cross the line despite several close attempts from their forwards and backs. Caerleons hopes were dashed when William Thomas Pace and Lewis Hopkins crossed again for a try each through excellent team work support play and combinations to allow them the chance to close out the game.

Praise is deserved not only for all the Cwmbran players in the team that demonstrated superior skills on the day but also to Caerleon for their valiant effort and never give up attitude. All of which provided a true spectical of rugby at this age level

Final score Cwmbran 56 Caerleon 7
