After a break of several weeks due to the bad weather, the under 9’s were eager to play again. Sunday’s visitors were Monmouth. Cwmbran started well, under the captaincy of Jack Lloyd and soon showed that all the tackling practice in mid week training was not forgotten. Jamie Williams opened up the scoring with a darting run and followed up with another try before half-time. The fact that Cwmbran went into the break without conceding was purely down to the tackling efforts. Most notably, Elliot Jones, Oliver Howard and Thomas Prosser had put in some great tackles to prevent Monmouth from having any lengthy spells of possession. After the restart Jamie Williams completed his hat-trick of tries, Isaac Powell followed up the team effort with some important tackles. Elliot Jones and Lloyd Saunders completed the scoring as the game finished 5-0. A great performance in defence this week. Corey Quiller, Ethand Edmonds, Joseph Pearce and Callum Davies all played their part in a consistent effort to prevent Monmouth any chance of a score. Now the team can concentrate on pass and move to increase their attacking threat.
